FITZGERALD landscape activation

The Fitzgerald Landscape Activation project is a resident-led effort coordinated by the DCDC that focuses on planning for the activation of the community landscapes that the City-led Fitzgerald Revitalization Project will soon build. Forthcoming neighborhood spaces include a greenway, central park and neighborhood hubs, all ripe for community activation. Built on an engagement strategy comprised of a representative Resident Task Force as well as larger community events, the planning effort evolved to include creative revitalization of neighborhood alleys with artwork and solar lights. Planning included placemaking events such as an Ideas Cook Out and Landscape Activities Day to test programming that was prioritized by community members. These events supported local businesses and doubled as engagement activities, inviting neighbors into the process. The team is now running programs and activating alleys with implementation funding from The Kresge Foundation.
