LIVERNOIS-MCNICHOLS STREETSCAPE & PUBLIC SPACE PLAN
The Livernois-McNichols Streetscape & Public Space plan is led by the City of Detroit and aims to build upon strong existing assets along the commercial corridors and transform them from auto-centric throughways to complete streets that support walking and biking, create vibrant and sustainable public spaces, and encourage commercial development. Spackman Mossop Michaels is the lead landscape architecture firm and DCDC contributed to design development and community engagement. DCDC also led a local team in the implementation of three pop-up “Better Block” installations featuring temporary streetscape improvements like bike lanes, bumpouts, crosswalks, benches, landscaping, lighting and programming. These installations incorporated local talent and community input and provided unique engagement opportunities in the streetscape planning process, envisioning an alternative streetscape and inviting participation and feedback along the way.
